Snowpool.com was created by Mike 'Lew' Lamar of abbaroo.com in the fall of 2004, just in time for the start of the 2004-05 snow season. During the 2003-04 season I bought a weekday season pass at Kirkwood. I have a flexible work schedule due to my self-employment so I was able to go to the snow many days during the week. Unfortunately, many of my friends work the standard Monday-Friday schedule and it was hard for them to get away during the week as much as they would like to. I did not let that stand in my way when I wanted to have a snow day.

With the rising costs of fuel, it is not practical to drive solo all the way up to the mountains and back for a snow day. If I can get just one other person to join me, then I pay half the cost for gas, and have some companionship for the ride. I had looked to see if there was any other site out there like this. I saw some sites for carpooling, but those were mostly oriented to people who need rides to work. That is a good thing, and I am not really in direct competition with them. This site is for carpools for play.

This site is just starting out now (November 2004) and I plan to keep improving it all the time. I'm starting out with the ski areas of the Sierras in California and Nevada, and I hope that it is successful enough to allow me to set it up for people in other states too. I hope that you meet some good people out there and get in plenty of turns for the season. Also, I hope that we can do our part to reduce congestion on the highways, save some gas, and reduce pollution all at the same time.
